In 1996, released by the Nintendo Corporation, was a redesign of the Nintendo Game Boy, known as the Game Boy Pocket. The Nintendo Game Boy Pocket was smaller, as well as lighter and used fewer batteries. You could still play over 10 hours of games using the Nintendo Game Boy Pocket.
Due to the size of the Nintendo Game Boy Pocket, a special link had to be created to allow the Nintendo Game Boy Pocket to connect with a Nintendo Game Boy in order to simultaneously play games. This adapter was able to be used all the way up until the Nintendo Game Boy Micro was released.
The Nintendo Game Boy Pocket, much like its predecessor of the Nintendo Game Boy featured a monochrome screen. When originally released, this unit did not feature any LEDs in order to show your batteries level, however, the LED would soon be added to the unit due to the demand from the public for a warning light for when the battery was running out.
There was also a need to create new colours of the Nintendo Game Boy Pocket. When this happened, the Nintendo Corporation added colours like red, green, blue, as well as some special release additions for certain games.
