In 1998, as a re-release of the Super Game Boy portable handheld gaming console, the Super Game Boy 2 was released to the Japanese market only. The only major difference between the Super Game Boy and the Super Game Boy 2 was that they were able to link together for multiplayer action. This was a great redesign to be included in the Game Boy handheld series, and sold very well throughout Japan. Although this was a Japanese release only, it was available in the North American market, though only as mail order.
