A Nintendo Entertainment System clone was developed and released in 2006 and was known as the FC Twin Video Game System. This home gaming system was developed as a backwards compatible clone that was capable of playing both the Nintendo Entertainment System games, as well as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System games. This system features a dual stack of hardware components in order to allow the play of both styles of games.
The FC Twin Video Game System had become very popular due to its ability to play both the eight bit, as well as the 16 bit games offered by the Nintendo Corporation. Although this gaming console was not capable of using the Nintendo Entertainment System controllers, it was capable of using the compatible controllers for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
The system was capable of playing in surround sound utilising its RCA connections, which was a bonus due to the fact that the original Nintendo Entertainment System gaming console was only capable of mono sound.
The new cartridge slot reader that was developed for the FC Twin Video Game System was considerably more reliable than that of the original Nintendo Entertainment System cartridge readers.
This home video gaming console was capable of reproducing all of the sounds that could be found in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System games. It was also capable of playing the Super Famicon games, but in order to do so you had to remove two plastic pads that can be found in the cartridge slot. Due to the regional lockout of the PAL format, some games would not be able to be used for various hardware reasons.
Although the FC Twin Video Game System was capable of playing the Super Famicon games it was not recommended due to various incompatibility and peripheral issues.
