In 1998 a peripheral for the Sony PlayStation was introduced. This was a miniaturised console that was known as the Sony Pocket Station. This mini game console featured sound, an infrared port, a clock, as well as an LCD screen. This unit can also double as a memory card for your standard PlayStation.
The games were stored on a CD-ROM, similar to that of the PlayStation, but they also came with many added features and bonuses. One of the benefits of using this Pocket Station was that on your way to work or school, you could play your favourite game.
There are several downloadable games for this unit, and it even allows for multiplayer action using the infrared link. This system, however, was never released in North America or the European Union, and is only available in Japan.
This was the exact opposite from what Sony had been advertising, as a matter of fact; this unit was featured in the official PlayStation Magazine of the United Kingdom. However, as stated before, this unit was never released there.
