The PlayStation Portable was released initially in Japan in 2004, then in the United States and Canada the following year. This unit made history in the handheld market due to the fact that it was the first handheld to ever use an optical disc. Although originally released in the 2004/2005, by 2007 Sony had also created the PlayStation Portable Slim and the PlayStation Portable Lite. Sony PlayStation Portables came in a variety of colours to choose from. At the 2007 E3 Convention, Sony had shown three different versions of the Sony PlayStation Portable. These versions were the Ice Silver, the Piano Black and the Star Wars version.
The Sony PlayStation Portable was released in three different packs. The first of which was the Core Pack, this was the most basic pack, as it came with just the console, the AC adapter and a battery. The second was considered the Value Pack. This value pack came with everything that the Core Pack had and it also came with earphones, a 32 MB memory stick, a remote control, a wrist strap, a case and a sampler disc. The final pack was known as the Entertainment Pack. This Entertainment Pack came with everything that the Core Pack came with, but also came with the game, ATV Off-Road Fury and a movie, the Lords of Dogtown. There was also a GigaPack; however, this was not released in the North American market.
The Sony PlayStation Portable comes in a variety of colours including ceramic, pink, black, white, silver, metallic blue and also champagne gold.
