Dreamcast
The Sega Dreamcast is both Sega's final video game console and the successor to the Sega Saturn. The Sega Dreamcast was an attempt for Sega to recapture the gaming industry with a next-generation system. Unfortunately the Sega Dreamcast never stood a chance, even though it was considered to be far ahead of its time.
The Sega Dreamcast was released in 1998 in Japan but it was not until the following year that North America would have the joy of owning the next generation Sega gaming console. The Dreamcast featured many firsts, including a built-in modem and internet support capabilities.
But the biggest factor for the Sega Dreamcast's inability to compete was the fact that in the same month that the Dreamcast had been released in North America, the Sony PlayStaion made the announcement that their next generation system was on its way and the fact that the Dreamcast featured the Windows CE operating system, which had become notorious for be hacked into.
