Mega-CD
The Sega Mega-CD was released as an add-on to both the Sega Genesis, North America version and the Sega Mega Drive else where in the world. The Sega Mega-CD add-on was designed in order to compete with the PC Engine, which featured a separate CD-ROM drive, which was increasing in popularity in Japan.
Originally the Sega Mega-CD was mounted under the Sega Genesis console, which utilised a tray style rack. This did not work very well and Sega released a second version called the Mega-CD 2, where the CD-ROM drive was located to the right of the Sega Genesis system and also changed to a top-loading drive with a lid.
