Neptune
In 1994, Sega released a gaming console called the Sega Neptune, which was another attempt to revive their Mega Drive and the Sega 32X all in one unit. Sega assumed that their low sales were due to the fact that the system was componentised.
After admitting that the 32X was both problematic as well as expensive, Sega decided to release their Sega Neptune as the single unit. By the time Sega got around to making the prototype Neptune unit, the Sega Saturn was not only past the prototype stage but it was to be released a couple of moths later, so the Sega Neptune project was scraped all together.
The Sega Neptune was to be used as an April Fools day joke the following April, when Electronic Gaming Monthly released an article about the Neptune stating that Sega had in fact found a warehouse which full of the Sega Neptune gaming consoles and that it was available for sale on a website. When people visited the website and clicked to purchase the rare Sega Neptune, the got a message saying "April Fools."
