Nomad

After the failure of the Japanese Sega Mega Jet handheld gaming console, Sega went into the development of a handheld unit, the Sega Nomad. The Nomad featured the one thing the Mega Jet lacked and that was a screen.

In 1995 Sega released the Sega Nomad as a portable Sega Genesis, which came with a 3.25 inch screen as well as the Sega Mega Jet's audio video output, so you could play the system on a television if you chose to do so.

Sega was not able to control the handheld market with their Sega Nomad, since there were some serious technical issues revolving around the Nomad. The Sega Nomad was too big and too bulky and let's not forget to mention that the power consumption was so high that you could easily kill six AA batteries in less than 2 hours.

The biggest fault was simply that the Sega Genesis platform was already too old and out dated. Since the Sega Nomad was based on a 16-bit system and the competitors like the PlayStation and Nintendo's line up at the time were already in the 64-bit range.
