The SG-1000 was produced form 1983, when it was first released in Japan, until 2001. Although the Sega SG-1000 was not very popular, it was able to pave the way for the Sega Genesis.
The Sega SG-1000 was first released in Japan in 1983 after a two year test market in which it was originally marketed at ¥15,000. Although the Sega SG-1000 was not very popular in Japan, it did make a surprisingly hit in Taiwan as it was the first gaming console in the country.
Today the Sega SG-1000 is considered to be both extremely rare as well as a highly sought after gaming console in the gaming industry and has seen a collectible price of up to $300 USD at an online auction.
