While the Street Fighter arcade game wasn't the first title to introduce the concept of one-on-one fighting, it revolutionised the arcade game industry in a manner that has allowed its dominance to continue into the present day.

Along with games such as Pac-Man and Space Invaders, most experts agree that Street Fighter is one of the most influential arcade games to ever be released.

The very first Street Fighter game was released in 1987. It used a joystick with two sizeable buttons. The amount of pressure used when pressing the button would determine the amount of damage that was done.

While Street Fighter I was successful, it was the release of Street Fighter 2 in 1991 that allowed the title to gain a tremendous amount of popularity. In fact, Street Fighter 2 made an impact on the gaming industry that would continue well into the 21st century.

The balance of attacks and blocks were excellent, and skilled players could perform advanced attacks. In addition to this, Street Fighter created a powerful storyline with a number of memorable characters.

Since its release, Street Fighter has spawned both movies and merchandise. It is a game that is both popular in Japan and outside of Japan. Unlike many fighting games, the success of Street Fighter has continued to the present day, and Capcom has become a household name in the game industry.
