The next console in line to be released from Atari, was that of the Atari 7800. Unlike the two predecessors, the Atari 7800 was a third generation home video gaming console. This system featured an 8-bit processor and was considered to be completely backwards compatible with the original Atari 2600 home gaming console. This was the last in the line of the Atari gaming consoles until the release of the Atari Jaguar. Two generations later.
Although the system was not as popular as the original Atari 2600, it still helped to make the Atari series of home gaming consoles, one of the longest-running series of backwards compatible systems. Much like its predecessors, the Atari 7800 had several popular video games.
