Games Overview
During
the 1980s and 1990s, DOS was one of the most popular operating
systems for games. While many of these games were extremely
popular, many of them became forgotten when more advanced
operating systems such as Windows 95 was introduced. Many
of these games fall under the category of shareware, and
many companies produced thousands of titles.
While
a number of these games were not high in quality, some of
them went on to gain a large amount of commercial success.
First
person shooter games first became popular during the
DOS era. Games like Duke Nukem, Hexen and Doom created
a new type of gaming experience that players had never
seen before. |

It
was DOS games that first introduced the concept of music
for PCs, and AI bots were first developed for classic games
such as Duke Nukem.
By
the mid 1990s, DOS had largely fallen out of favor as 32-bit
console games begin to capture the markets that had been
dominated by PC games for the last few years.

However,
there has been a recent surge of interest in DOS games,
and many websites are now offering hundreds of titles
