| Pac-Man
History
Pac-Man
is a Japanese arcade game that was first introduced in the
1980s by Namco. However, its popularity has extended beyond
the shores of the country in which it was first introduced.
Pac-Man
is considered by many experts to be a gaming classic,
and has become an icon that is particularly used to
define the 1980s. This arcade game inspired both cartoons
and pop songs.
One
of the reasons why Pac-Man became so popular is because
it was a rapid departure from the prevalent arcade
games that existed in the market at the time. |
 |
Most
of the arcade games in the United States were violent titles
such as Defender or Space Invaders. While these games mostly
appealed to males, Pac-Man was a game that appealed to everyone,
whether they were old or young, male or female. Currently,
at least 30 sequels have been made to Pac-Man, as well as
a number of clones.
The
production for Pac-Man lasted about 18 months, and Toru
Iwatani of Namco was primarily responsible for its development.
While the game was not popular in Japan upon its release,
it was a smash hit in both Europe and the United States.

While
many companies attempted to imitate Pac-Man upon its
release, none of them could surpass it in terms or
popularity or profits. |
