They are generally considered to be games produced before the N64 or Sony Playstation (PS1/PSX), some people say retro is before the SNES or Megadrive, but in reality it comes down to basic nostalgia.. Some ‘cynics’ class retro games as games that are fondly remembered but no longer played. | | In essence what it really comes down to is personal opinion, if it feels retro to you, then retro it is. Any game that is rendered in 2D, or uses low resolution graphics can be classed as retro. Any games consol that is no longer made can be classed as retro, Atari, Commodore, Nintendo or Sega Megadrive. | Any games for old 8 bit consoles like the VCS 2600, N.E.S., Vectrex MB, Atari 7800 and Master System are defiantly retro, as well as 16 bit consoles S.N.E.S., MegaDrive, Mega CD and Neo Geo. | 32 bit consoles Sega Saturn, COMMODORE CD32 and Playstation are retro in some peoples eyes (normally younger people) and others class 64 bit consoles, Nintendo 64 and Atari Jaguar, and 128 bit consoles, Dreamcast and GameCube, as retro. Who’s to say…
